So, the winemakers here, and viticulturists, have quite a job to do to keep this wine true to its iconic status. This is… when we look at our website, this is the second most searched for Sauvignon Blanc on the website and app and is the most searched for New Zealand wine. To be fair Cloudy Bay is a New Zealand icon.

So please feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below because we would be interested to know. So, a bit of a departure there, and, as I say, I think, an attempt to slightly premiumize the packaging, and that’s left us here at Wine-Searcher wondering whether they have succeeded or not? One or two people feel that… within the office, feel that maybe this packaging looks a little bit more like a, sort of, a higher-volume, cheaper brand equivalent.

And the label echoed the style of the label also of Cape Mentelle, which was the other property that David Hohnen, the founder, had also owned… started in Western Australia. There is an embossing behind that of a further mountain range in the background there – and that echoes the previous label, which, actually was fairly historic for Cloudy Bay – I think the story is that the picture on the label was based on a picture taken by Kevin Judd, who was the first winemaker. There’s a Cloudy Bay logo there “CB” and, the date 1985 - which was when the winery was started - and then with the top of the label there being cut to a, sort of, a hill/mountain shape there. So we’ve got a bottle here with embossing on. I think possibly one of the impetuses of them sending this out – this is recently released - is the new packaging that they have just adopted, where I think they are trying to premiumize the brand a little.

Today, I'm lucky enough to be tasting an icon of New Zealand's wines, this is Cloudy Bay’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 - and Cloudy Bay have very kindly sent me a bottle to review.
